The ACN Match Review 25/26 – Wrexham (h)

How did we play?

Psychological theory suggests that to be happy and productive in the workplace, employees need a good sense of mastery, autonomy and purpose. Currently, Norwich City’s playing staff exhibit none of these, aside from Vladan Kovačević.

Are any of our new players actually any good? Papa Diallo can run quite fast but seems to have no idea what to do when he gets to the end of his run; Harry Darling is an increasingly ragged version of the cultured defender we were told was joining us; Topic and Medic are present in body only. In this match, no one appeared to have freedom of thought or any clue what they were supposed to be doing.

After the match, High Performance’s Liam Manning made a low-grade dig at lack of effort, a common fault of middle-managers who lack the emotional intelligence to realise that they alone are responsible for creating an environment where their employees can turn up to work knowing what to do, have the freedom to do it and know how to do it well.  

What was the best bit of the game?

For 15 minutes we saw a very good version of Matěj Jurásek, once we’d realised giving him the ball was a good thing. It culminated in a lovely ball to Jack Stacey and a 1-0 lead. Can we start him some more, please?

What was the worst bit of the game?

Everything that happened in the second half was an abomination.

What was the atmosphere like?

Exactly as you’d expect when your team throws away a lead like this. Wrexham fans seemed a little shy to begin with but made plenty of noise in the second half – I’m not sure they could quite believe their luck but fair play to them, it at least drowned out some of the booing.

Kovačević made some incredible saves and gave some enormous bollockings.
